Privacy Policy
IOU is a personal ledger for tracking money you lend and borrow. This policy explains what information the app handles and how — in plain language, since this is a small, independently developed app rather than a company with a legal department.
Everything stays on your device
IOU has no server and no account system beyond your device. Your name, email, and password (stored as a secure hash, never in plain text), and every entry, repayment, note, and attachment you create, are saved in a local database on your phone. Nothing is uploaded to us, and we have no way to see your data — we don't have a copy of it.
Permissions IOU asks for
Each permission is used only for the feature it supports, only when you use that feature, and the result stays on your device:
• Contacts — to fill in a person's phone number when you pick them while adding an entry.
• Camera and microphone — to attach a photo, video, or voice note as proof against an entry.
• Notifications — to send the daily overdue reminder, if you turn it on in Settings.
Advertising
IOU shows banner ads through Google AdMob. AdMob may collect device and advertising identifiers and ad-interaction data to serve and measure ads, under Google's own privacy policy — we don't receive or control that data ourselves.
Backing up or moving your data
Settings lets you export your ledger to a file and share or save it wherever you choose (a Downloads folder, cloud storage, another app) — that's a deliberate action you take, not something IOU does automatically. You can restore from that file later, including on a different phone. IOU itself never sends this file anywhere on its own.
If you delete the app
Uninstalling IOU deletes its local database along with it. There's no account to close and no server-side copy to remove, because none exists — so back up first (see above) if you want to keep your records.
Children's privacy
IOU isn't directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect information from them.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the "Last updated" date above will change too. Continuing to use IOU after an update means you accept the revised policy.
